CAREnJOY-for-the-Elderly

CAREnJOY for the Elderly

Partnering with nine elderly service agencies on Hong Kong and Lamma islands, HK Electric extends its care to single elders through the "CAREnJOY for the Elderly" (CAREnJOY) programme.

CAREnJOY encourages single elders to reach out to the community and promotes mutual support in the neighbourhood. Senior citizens are recruited and trained as ambassadors to encourage single elders to join local service centres, so that the latter are connected to community support and know where to seek help if needed.

Visits to single elders and district-based electrical safety talks cum gatherings are held on Hong Kong and Lamma islands. Material aids are provided during the visits. HK Electric volunteers also leverage their expertise to check out electrical installations in the elders' homes, and to share electrical safety and efficiency tips.

While our regular elderly care and community outreach initiatives were mostly suspended amid the COVID pandemic, we continued to extend care and connect with the elderly through creative means, including "CAREnJOY Non-stop" to dispatch useful information feeds via mobile phone weekly, "CAREnJOY Call-to-Care" to make caring calls to single elders regularly, and "CAREnJOY Go-Go-Go" to provide material aids by delivering giftbags with daily and hygiene neccessities to elders in need.

CAREnJOY Puppet Show Premiere cum Electrical Safety Talk

A new CAREnJOY element, "At Home with Greenie" Puppet Show, was launched in Aug 2022 to promote low carbon living and electrical safety, while encouraging single elders to stay in touch with the community.

1,200 giftbags had been delivered to elders in need under CAREnJOY Go-Go-Go programme in 2022.

"CAREnJOY Non-stop" provides information feeds via mobile phones to show care and share useful tips on electrical safety, low carbon and healthy living with over 9,300 single elders weekly.

In July 2021, CAREnJOY Go-Go-Go turned into bicycles to deliver giftbags and extend our care to the elders living on Lamma Island.

The CAREnJOY GO-GO-GO electric car, a new member of HK Electric's EV fleet, will tour around Hong Kong Island in 2021 to extend care to the elderly.

HK Electric volunteers reached out to over 140 single elders to show our care via phone calls through the "CAREnJOY Call-to-Care" service under COVID-19 in 2020.

Electrical Safety Talks are organised regularly to share energy saving and efficiency tips with the elders.

CAREnJOY supports SWD's Dementia Friendly Community Campaign and help promote dementia prevention during home visits and safety talks.

In 2019, CAREnJOY supports Social Welfare Department's Dementia Friendly Community Campaign and help promote dementia prevention during home visits and safety talks.

During district-based talks, senior citizens will learn the exercises good for the brain, and will receive tips on how to prevent dementia.

Energy safety and efficiency tips are shared with single elders in district-based electrical safety talks cum gatherings.
