In 2018, the U3A co-founded by HK Electric and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service launched the first "Smart Power Ambassadors Training Programme" for local retirees, encouraging them to promote environmental protection and energy efficiency in the community.
The training was conducted in the form of lectures and visits covering topics from global climate changes, green electricity generation, trees preservation, waste management, green building, smart city to electricity safety and energy-saving, designed to equip participants with green knowledge to spread in the community.
More than 130 U3A students signed up for the training programme in 2018, with 54 completing the full course. Ten outstanding ambassadors were recognised for their efforts in promoting energy efficiency and spreading green messages in the community, through 70 sharing sessions for some 1,600 attendees from all walks of life.
In view of the pandemic in 2020, we moved our "Smart Power Ambassadors Training Programme" online and successfully trained 130 retirees to be more green-conscious, they were encouraged to spread green messages and promote low-carbon living in the community.
