"Care and Share" SME Caterers Subsidy Scheme

To support the local catering industry and the underprivileged during the current economic downturn, HK Electric has launched the "Care and Share" SME Caterers Subsidy Scheme. Eligible underprivileged families are invited to make appointments with designated NGO centres to collect dining coupons worth HK$500 for consumption at SME eateries in HK Electric's supply territory. This will not only bring more business to SME eateries but benefit those in need as well.  

Due to the overwhelming response, the quota of 40,000 sets has been fully-subscribed. Distribution of "Care and Share" dining coupons has also been completed.

Underprivileged Families 

Eligibility for collecting coupons

HK Electric's residential customers or households living in a sub-divided unit (SDU) in HK Electric's supply territory; and are​ beneficiary under any one of the schemes below:

  • HK Electric's Concessionary Tariff Scheme
  • HK Electric's Smart Power Care Fund
  • Comprehensive Social Security Assistance
  • Disability Allowance
  • ​Working Family Allowance
  • School Textbook Assistance
  • Community Care Fund
  • Old Age Allowance/Old Age Living Allowance
  • Senior Citizen Card

or

  • facing financial difficulties as recommended by ​the designated NGO or District Councillors

How to collect coupons?

To control the flow of people under the current pandemic, eligible families are required to contact one of the 23 designated NGO centres to make an appointment first.​​

Upon confirmation, they will be invited to collect dining coupons at the designated NGO centre by presenting the following documents:

  • ​2020 HK Electric's residential electricity bill original copy/SDU rental payment receipt within last 3 months
  • HKID card/Passport
Each eligible family may collect only one set of dining coupons, on a first-come-first-served basis while stock lasts.

Make appointment first, then visit the designated NGO centre with the required documents.
 

Collect coupons after registration with NGO.


How to use coupons?

Each set contains 20 coupons, each worth $25. They can be used to settle food and beverage payments at designated SME eateries before 31 December 2020.


Use dining coupons at participating eateries on or before 31 December 2020.
 

Present and hand in dining coupons to participating eateries before settling the bill.
 

Eateries to scan the QR code for verification.

 

SME Caterers 

Eligibility

SME caterers within HK Electric's supply territory are welcome to participate if they:

  • Hold a valid Business Registration Certificate and Food Business Licence
  • Employ fewer than 50 persons (together with all other eateries with a common ownership) 

How to apply?


Submit application form and the required documents.
 

HK Electric to ​vet and approve application.
 

HK Electric to issue approval letter and provide scheme label.
 

Participating eatery to download the designated mobile application for scanning coupon QR codes.


How to collect payment?


Collect original copy of coupons from customers before settling the bill.
 

Scan the QR co​de on coupons for verification.
 

Keep the used original coupons with the corresponding transaction receipts until end of 2020.
 

Based on the weekly number of coupons recorded, HK Electric will disburse the corresponding subsidy amount within the next 2 weeks.

NGO Catering Subsidy Programme

HK Electric provides a subsidy capped at HK$30,000 for each eligible NGO community centre operating in HK Electric's supply territory to purchase food and beverages from "Care and Share" SME caterers for activities serving underprivileged families and the needy.


Eligibility

  • The NGO is non-profit-making, and is either a member of The Hong Kong Council Social Service or an organisation subvention services under the Social Welfare Department of the HKSAR Government;
  • The NGO Community centre is located in HK Electric's supply territory; and
  • The NGO community centre provides catering activities for underprivileged families and the needy.


Procedures

  1. Submit application form and the required documents.
  2. HK Electric to vet and approve application.
  3. Arrange catering activities on or before 31 December 2021 and submit monthly activity report to HK Electric.
  4. HK Electric to vet catering expenses and approve the subsidy amount.
  5. HK Electric to reimburse the approved subsidy amount to the designated bank account of the NGO community centre.

Energy-efficient Equipment Subsidy​ Programme

HK Electric's non-residential customers (except temporary supply and government accounts) may apply for subsidies to retrofit or install energy-efficient equipment.

  1. ​Submit application form and the required documents AFTER installation.

  2. HK Electric to vet application and carry out sample post-installation inspection.

  3. HK Electric to disburse the subsidy to the electricity account of the successful applicant.

Category 2

High energy-efficient air-conditioning system NOT under the Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labell​ing Scheme, including:
  • Air-cooled chiller
  • Water-cooled chiller
  • Variable refrigerant flow system
  • Unitary air-conditioner
Subsidy Rate and Cap 50% of purchase net price, capped at HK$150,000 Procedures​
  1. Submit application form and the required documents BEFORE procurement.

  2. HK Electric to vet application and carry out pre-installation inspection.

  3. Purchase and install equipment upon HK Electric's approval.

  4. HK Electric to disburse the subsidy to the electricity account of the successful applicant upon
    satisfactory post-installation inspection.

​​​Energy-efficient Community Subsidy Programme

HK Electric provides subsidies for the implementation of low-carbon living projects at eligible premises in HK Electric's supply territory, which enable the premises users to adopt low-carbon lifestyle and/or embrace energy efficiency, improve indoor environment and/or bring social benefits.

Eligible Premises (Category 1) - Full subsidy capped at HK$500,000 per eligible premises

Eligible Premises (Category 2) - Full subsidy capped at HK$300,000 per eligible premises


Eligible Premises

Category 1: Premises operated by non-profit-making NGOs for provision of education, community, welfare or transitional housing services; non-government kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, higher education institutions, or associated student facilities.

Category 2: Premises operated by small and medium enterprises, which are residential care homes for the elderly or persons with disabilities, child care centres, fitness centres, beauty parlours, licensed guesthouses, clubhouses, or premises for food license holders, laundry trade or dishware washing trade.

Eligible Projects 

Turnkey retrofitting, upgrading or new installation of energy-efficient electrical facilities, equipment, installations or appliances for kitchen, laundry or water heating at the eligible premises listed above.


Procedures


Submit application form and the required documents.
 

HK Electric to vet application and carry out pre-project inspection​.
 

Award contract upon HK Electric's approval and complete installation.
 

HK Electric to disburse the subsidy after satisfactory post-installation inspection.



 

Smart to Care Subsidy Programme

HK Electric provides subsidies for implementation of gerontechnology or smart technology projects at eligible premises in HK Electric's supply territory, which provide an energy-efficient, safe, comfortable and/or convenient environment for the premises users.


Eligible Premises (Category 1) - Full subsidy capped at HK$300,000 per eligible premises

Eligible Premises (Category 2) - Full subsidy capped at HK$150,000 per eligible premises


Eligible Premises

​Category 1: Premises operated by non-profit-making NGOs for provision of caring, rehabilitation or residential services to elderly, children or disabilities.

Category 2: Premises operated by small and medium enterprises for provision of caring, rehabilitation or residential services to elderly, children or disabilities.

Eligible Projects 

Turnkey implementation of gerontechnology or smart technology equipment/systems at the eligible premises listed above.


Procedures


Submit application form and the required documents.
 

HK Electric to vet application and carry out pre-project inspection.
 

Award contract upon HK Electric's approval and complete installation.
 

HK Electric to disburse the subsidy after satisfactory post-installation inspection.

 

 

Energy-efficient Appliances Subsidy Programme

Eligible households living in HK Electric's supply territory may apply for a one-off subsidy up to HK$5,000 for:

  • Replacement of existing household electrical appliances by more energy-efficient models
  • Provision of new energy-efficient household electrical appliances
  • Provision of handy improvement works for safe use of electricity

 

Eligibility

  • Beneficiaries of the Government's Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme; or
  • Customers participating in HK Electric's Concessionary Tariff Schemes; or
  • Eligible households of sub-divided units (SDUs); or
  • The household resides at transitional housing.

Procedures

Submit application via St. James' Settlement (SJS).
 
SJS to conduct initial assessment.
 
HK Electric to vet and approve application, arrange appliances delivery, installation and/or handy improvement work.
 
SJS to conduct site visits to confirm appliances installed and/or handy improvement work completed.

​​​Eligible households can contact St. James' Settlement at 2596 2727 to make application.


SDU Rewiring Subsidy Programme

Eligible SDU households living in HK Electric's supply territory may apply for a one-off subsidy for rewiring and installation of individual HK Electric's tariff meters capped at HK$15,000 per SDU (subject to an overall cap of HK$45,000 for the flat before subdivision). The applicant shall obtain prior consent of every SDU households in the flat, the owner of the flat and Building Owners' Corporations.

SDU Electricity Charges Relief Programme

Eligible SDU households without individual HK Electric's tariff meters may apply for a subsidy of HK$600 per household per year.

Eligibility

  • The SDU is located in HK Electric's supply territory and is not installed with an individual 
    HK Electric's tariff meter; and
  • The applicant must be a member of the household residing in the SDU; and
  • The applicant is a Senior Citizen Card holder or
    ​the Household is facing financial dif​​ficulties as recommended by the assessment centre.


Procedures

Submit application in-person at the assessment centre together with corresponding documents for verification.
 
Assessment centre to confirm the information of the applicant and refer eligible application to HK Electric for vetting.
 
HK Electric to vet and approve application, and release subsidy to the designated bank account of the successful applicant.
