Electricity Generation

At HK Electric, electricity is generated at Lamma Power Station (LPS) located at Po Lo Tsui of Lamma Island. With a total installed capacity of 3,617MW, LPS provides a safe and reliable supply of electricity for more than 580,000 customers on Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island, and contributes to HK Electric's world class reliability of more than 99.999% since 1997.

The Company is committed to using cleaner fuels including natural gas and renewable energy for power generation. Following the opening of Hong Kong's first and only commercial-scale wind power station, Lamma Winds, in 2006, three gas-fired units that burn the more environmentally-friendly natural gas became operational from 2006 to 2020. In line with Government's environmental policy that aims to increase the use of gas, gas-fired generation has been increased to around 50% of the total output in 2020. LPS also features one of the city's largest solar power systems, contributing to the green energy produced for Hong Kong.

To tie in with the Government's escalation to "Emergency" response level amidst the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and to prevent people from gathering, HK Electric has suspended all visits to its facilities until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
