To improve roadside air quality and reduce carbon emissions, HK Electric has been promoting the wider use of electric vehicles (EV). With the full support from the Company's Smart Power EV Charging Solution service, the EV charging-enabling infrastructure at a private residential development in Wan Chai has recently been built for the residents. This is the first completed project under the Government's EV-charging at Home Subsidy Scheme (EHSS).
In addition, free-charging at HK Electric's EV charging stations has been extended to the end of 2023 to further encourage the use of EVs.
HK Electric's General Manager (Customer Services), Mr. Raymond Choi, visited the new EV-charging facilities at Stubbs Villa in Shiu Fai Terrace earlier where installation works of the EV Charging-enabling Infrastructure have just been completed, involving 35 parking spaces.
Mr. Choi, who was accompanied by Dr. Kenneth Leung, Assistant Director (Air Policy) of the Environmental Protection Department, met with representatives of the Incorporated Owners of Stubbs Villa. He noted that the Smart Power EV Charging Solution is the Company's major initiative to support the Government's EV policy which is to assist Hong Kong to achieve zero vehicular emissions target together with better roadside air quality.
"The professional engineering team from the Company has offered free one-stop service to Stubbs Villa throughout the whole project journey — from assisting them with applying for the EHSS, monitoring the construction works progress, through to offering recommendations on the design and installation of the charging-enabling infrastructure."
Mr. Choi also revealed that another EHSS project, the Macdonnell House in Central, with 50 EV charging-enabled parking spaces is expected to be completed next month.
Representatives of Stubbs Villa Incorporated Owners' were grateful for HK Electric's one-stop service. They said the Company's valuable input and advice from the outset was the key to overcoming engineering difficulties leading to the smooth completion of the project. The owners respond positively to the installations in general.
Since the launch of the EHSS, HK Electric has issued confirmation letters on power supply capacity to more than 420 private residential estates on Hong Kong Island (covering around 50,000 parking spaces) to facilitate their EHSS application. Meanwhile, the free charging service at HK Electric's charging stations is further extended to the end of 2023. In 2009, the Company set up the first batch of EV charging stations for public use in Hong Kong. To date, there are 12 such stations on Hong Kong Island providing free service. Users can always locate one within 15 minutes of driving distance. Half of these are multi-standard quick charging stations that provide greater convenience to EV users.
