With Chinese New Year fast approaching, HK Electric has continued with its "Care and Share" dining coupon programme for the needy and underprivileged families to nourish some festive warmth – especially with the pandemic continuing to threaten for the third year running.

Meanwhile, the Company will continue to show its support for the Government's plan to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 by setting aside $63 million to enhance schemes that would decarbonise.

A total of 50,000 low-consumption or concessionary tariff residential customers will receive in batches "Care and Share" 2022 dining coupons set at $200 for use at more than 200 participating eateries located on Hong Kong Island from now till the end of the year.

HK Electric's General Manager (Customer Services), Mr. Choi Wai-man noted that as the pandemic continued, he hoped that the distribution of these coupons would bring relief to the needy and help generate extra income for eateries hard hit by the pandemic.

Launched since 2018, "Smart Power Services (the 'Services')" provided various funding/service schemes covering different sectors to help customers and the community decarbonise, promote low-carbon living and sustainability development, support the underprivileged and help transform Hong Kong into a smart zero-carbon caring city.

This year, a number of schemes under the "Services" banner will be enhanced, including the increase of subsidy amount for "Sub Divided Unit (SDU) Electricity Charges Relief Programme" recipients. This subsidy will be increased from $600 to $1,000 yearly to alleviate the financial burden of SDU households.

The amount for the "Smart Power Building Fund" will also be increased. To encourage customers to save on energy, the subsidy rate and cap will be increased to 50% of the project cost and $500,000 respectively for commercial buildings with an annual saving of 200,000 units of electricity or more.

Besides, the eligibility for the "Energy-efficient Community Subsidy Programme" has been relaxed to all non-residential customers this year. Eligible applicants will receive full subsidies either capped at $300,000 or $500,000 covering electrification projects for their kitchen, laundry or water heating systems which would enable the premises users to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

NGOs planning to install electric vehicle charging facilities can also apply for a subsidy capped at $300,000 to deliver electric transport services for the underprivileged while reducing carbon and roadside emissions.

As for the "Smart to Care Subsidy Programme", eligibility has been expanded to include all homes and centres operated for the elderly, children or persons with disabilities within the HK Electric's supply territory, as well as transitional housing operated by non-profit-making NGOs. The programme also provides a full subsidy capped at $300,000 for implementation of gerontechnology or smart technology projects which provide an energy-efficient, safe, comfortable and convenient environment for users of such premises.

The "Energy-efficient Equipment Subsidy Programme" has also been enhanced providing subsidies to non-residential customers already conductedthe "Smart Power Energy Audit" service to retrofit LED lights and energy-efficient air-conditioning equipment. The subsidy rate and cap will be at 50% of the project cost and $150,000 respectively.

In addition to these enhanced projects, Smart Power Services also include "Smart Power for Construction Site", "Smart Power EV Charging Solution", "Feed-in Tariff Scheme", "Renewable Energy Certificates" and "Smart Power Energy Audit", etc.
