Free One-stop Service on EV Charging Solutions

22 Oct 2020

HK Electric has launched a new one-stop "Smart Power EV Charging Solution"  service for free in support of the Government's $2 billion EV-charging at Home Subsidy Scheme to help install electric vehicle charging-enabling infrastructure in car parks of private residential buildings.

HK Electric customers interested in applying for the Government's subsidy scheme are welcome to call the new "Smart Power Services Hotline" (2510-2701) or fill in an online form available on the company website ( www.hkelectric.com/EV-en ) or email to ev@hkelectric.com.

Under the new service, electricity load and spare capacity data will be provided to concerned buildings while HK Electric's engineering team will advise on whether the capacity of existing supply points will be able to cater for the additional load of EV charging facilities, based on the number of parking spaces under the application. The team will also carry out site inspection at the car park on power supply and metering arrangements, as well as advise on the preliminary reinforcement work and facilities that are needed.

In addition, information on common EV charging solutions will be provided for customers, as well as professional advice and assistance in applying for the Government's subsidy scheme if building owners plan to install the EV charging-enabling infrastructure. For more information, simply visit the company's new webpage at www.hkelectric.com/EV-en.

Meanwhile, HK Electric's EV fleet will reach 166 by the end of this year, representing about 50 per cent of the present contingent, a vast improvement from the two electric vans that were introduced in the 1980s. By the end of 2020 all operational sedan cars in the current fleet will be replaced by EVs or hybrid vehicles to further help curb roadside emissions.

To date, HK Electric has set up 12 EV charging stations on Hong Kong Island providing free service - users can always locate one within 15 minutes of driving distance. The quick charging stations at Star Ferry in Central and Yue Wan Estate in Chai Wan have been upgraded recently with multi-standard quick chargers that will provide greater convenience to EV users. And to promote low-carbon driving, free charging at HK Electric's charging stations has been further extended to the end of December 2021.

Besides handling enquiries, the new "Smart Power Services Hotline" also offers information on how to apply for the "Smart Power Care Fund", guide to application for "Smart Power Building Fund", details of "Smart Power Energy Audit" and "Feed-in Tariff Scheme", as well as how to purchase "Renewable Energy Certificates".
