HK Electric Launches Happy Green Trio to Support Online Learning

15 Sep 2020

With Hong Kong going all-out to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and schools getting ready to start a very different academic year, HK Electric's Happy Green Campaign is launching a trio of new e-learning tools to meet the online learning needs of students. The trio includes an animation series, an interactive drama and a virtual guided tour, which enable students to know and experience more about "Smart Power for Smart City" even if they are required to learn from home.

Rolling out today (15 September 2020) was the first episode of the animation series "Smart City Takes Action", casting the Happy Green Campaign's spokesmen "Green Kid & Family", who illustrate how everyone can take actions to save energy, protect the environment and live low-carbon. The six-episode series will cover the different aspects of a smart city and be launched in phases on the campaign's Facebook page with games, quizzes, worksheets and competitions to add fun and encourage interaction.

Also aimed to make school talks more engaging, the interactive drama "Smart Power Alliance" will be brought on stage by a professional theatre group, iStage, to tell the story of how the CEO of a technology company has changed his outlook of life, saving the present and the future after his encounter with the "Smart Power Alliance". In view of the pandemic, the premiere of the drama will go live on the Happy Green Campaign Facebook page on Saturday, 10 October 2020 at 3:00 pm for all to enjoy and take part online.

Following the launch of the mini-movie "Happy Green Today for Tomorrow" last year, the "Smart Power Alliance" drama is the latest "Other Learning Experience" option offered to "Happy Green Schools" as member activities. Both online and in-campus versions are available for schools to cater to different learning needs and circumstances.

"Though the pandemic has changed the daily lives of the public and affected the way students are educated, our green work must go on. We are glad that by going online, our Happy Green Campaign can continue to spread green messages under the 'new normal' in a fun and engaging way, both online and offline, at home or in schools," said Ms. Mimi Yeung, General Manager (Public Affairs) of HK Electric.

Animation and drama aside, HK Electric also invites students and stakeholders to join virtual guided tours to visit the Company's Smart Power Gallery in Sheung Wan. Using the 3D Camera technology, the online tour will allow participants to experience a virtual walk inside the premises. A docent will also guide the tour via an online meeting platform to introduce more on climate change, renewable energy and smart city, as well as how HK Electric supports these through green power generation and its Smart Power Services.

Also went online was a two-day workshop, "Smart City Online", organised earlier for last year's "Outstanding Happy Green Ambassadors" and winners of the "Green Energy Dream Come True" competition. Representatives from HK Electric, Cyberport and a few start-ups shared how various sectors had been supporting Hong Kong in the smart city development. Participants also gained hands-on experience in a Geographic Information System workshop, exploring how to conduct research on electric vehicle charging stations using big data and creating their own smart city maps.

The 2020/2021 "Happy Green Schools" and "Happy Green Ambassadors" Programmes are now open for applications.
