HK Electric Scoops HKMA's Coveted Grand Prize

HK Electric was presented today (21 July) with the Grand Award of the 2017 HKMA Quality Award in recognition of the Company's commitment to developing and deploying total quality management.

The Hong Kong Management Association commended HK Electric's management team for walking the talk and cascading the corporate vision, mission and core values clearly to all levels of the Company's employees. It also complimented the Company for its organisational agility and operational flexibility in adapting to changing circumstances in the strategic planning process, as well as its customer-centric approach in providing customers with a wide range of convenient and tailor-made services.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, HK Electric's Managing Director, Mr. Wan Chi-tin, said winning the Grand Award this year is especially meaningful as the Company has entered into a new Scheme of Control Agreement with the Government that would take the Company forward for another 15 years to 2033.

Thanking HKMA for granting HK Electric the honour and the panel of judges for their insight, Mr. Wan said: "The competition has given us a chance to review and examine our operations and to benchmark with industry's best practices for further improvements, ensuring that current management standard satisfies the ever-increasing expectations of stakeholders."

To cope with the rapid social development and fast-changing business environment, he pointed out that the Company's management needs to identify changes in a timely manner and constantly plan ahead for future challenges and opportunities with vigilance.

HK Electric has been consistently achieving a world-class supply reliability of over 99.999% in the past 20 years, while maintaining excellent performance in safety, tariff affordability, environmental-friendliness and customer services. These five pillars underpin the Company's success in the power sector.

Mr. Wan pointed out that winning this award would not have been possible without the dedication of the Company's workforce, and the support of its business partners, suppliers and contractors, most of whom share HK Electric's commitment to quality excellence.

"While we are honoured to receive this award, we must also understand that with recognition comes responsibility. In the years to come, HK Electric will remain committed to serving our home city with quality and excellence and providing cleaner energy through the increasing use of natural gas," Mr. Wan concluded.

The Quality Award was first launched in 1991 by the HKMA to recognise organisations that had achieved outstanding standards of quality management. With reference to the "Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award", the Quality Award assessed companies in seven judging criteria -- Leadership, Strategy, Customers, Workforce, Operations, Results and Measures, Analysis and Knowledge Management.
